A Message From Rebecca
Since a young age, I can recall struggling with feelings that I couldn’t put into words. I couldn’t understand why I internally felt this tingly overwhelming pull in my chest of which I could not name. I grew up in an old school Latino family and what do I mean by that, well, let’s just say “feelings” were not quite existent and mental health was not very normalized.
My name is Rebecca Villegas; I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I was born and raised in the northwest side of Chicago in Belmont-Cragin. I was first drawn into the world of mental health when I took a psychology course in college. The idea of learning about human functions and why people do what they do or why people are the way that they are is something I was always curious about. I found a love for not just helping people but understanding them as I then began to connect the dots within myself and finally putting a word or a name to the feelings I struggled for so long even sitting with. My hope in doing this work is to help others connect those dots for themselves too. I want to empower individuals to not just understand themselves more, but to return to themselves as well. Life can be messy and it can be hard. Experiences shift us. Experiences change us, and sometimes we fall way off our wagon, not even recognizing the person we see in the mirror anymore. Let’s come back to ourselves and connect those dots together. With unity, community, and support, si se puede! (Yes, we can).
